AI phone receptionist

Tom answers for a made-up plumbing company in the Portland area. He books small repairs onto a live dispatch board and hands anything serious to a person, which is where the demo ends. A real language model on a real phone line.

  • Call or chat. The same receptionist answers both.
  • Describe a small job, like a slow drain. In the chat, watch it book onto the board.
  • Describe something serious, like a burst pipe, and hear how Tom hands it off.
  • Calls end after six minutes and land on a board only we can see; chat to watch yours fill in.
  • A busy signal usually means a demo limit was hit, such as two calls already on the line. The chat still works.
The receptionist web demo after a booking: the chat with Tom ending in a Booked card for Monday at 9 AM, the details he captured, his tool calls and the simulated confirmation text, and below them the dispatch board with the new job in Mike R.’s column.
A short booking, captured on the scripted version; Tom’s live wording will differ. Full size

Honesty note

Real here, simulated there

  • Real here: the language model (Claude, from Anthropic), the phone line, the board, the open times Tom checks, and his decision to hand a call off.
  • Simulated: the business, its customers and technicians, the person a serious call goes to (the demo ends there), and the texts, which appear on screen and are never sent. Your chat board is private and resets after 30 idle minutes.
  • Daily limit: model turns are capped each day across all visitors. After that a scripted version answers, so a late visit may get the script.
  • In production: your calendar, your crews, and your rules for what it books on its own and what waits for a person.
